Wet Rot

Faulty downpipes, gutters or stone pointing can be the main source of a wet rot issue. Wet rot requires a source of moisture to grow, usually this issue will be contained to areas where the timber is wet. When the timber becomes wet it will allow the fungal spores to spread and grow, which results in the timber losing its strength.

Indications of wet rot:

  • Fungal growth
  • Damp musty smell
  • Timber is softened or cracked, very often it will be distorted or discoloured

Wet rot is less severe than dry rot but can still cause a considerable amount of damage to your property and should not be ignored. If this issue is not checked then it can cause a high amount of structural defects.

We’re able to come and assess the issue for you. Our surveyor will locate the source of the problem and be able to give judgement on the amount of damage. Treatment of wet rot will usually mean that the timber within the structure will need to be replaced.
